Recess is designed for families. You can add multiple children to your account, and each child gets their own personalized experience. Here's how to set up and manage your kids' profiles.
Adding a New Child
You can add a child during initial signup or anytime afterward from your family settings.
Required information:
First name
Last name
Birthdate
Optional information:
Email address (must be unique if provided)
That's it! Once you add a child, they're ready to go through the quick onboarding process.
Age Recommendations
Recess is designed for kids ages 8-14. Our classes, community spaces, and challenges are all built with this age range in mind.
Kids outside the 8-14 range: We handle these situations on a case-by-case basis. If you have a younger child who's ready for Recess, or an older teen who'd benefit from our community, reach out to your concierge. We're happy to discuss whether Recess is a good fit.
The Kid Onboarding Process
After you add a child to your account, they'll go through a brief onboarding experience:
Personalization questions — A few quick questions about their interests, how they like to learn, and what subjects excite them
Course recommendations — Based on their answers, we generate personalized class recommendations tailored to what they're likely to enjoy
Ready to explore — They can immediately start browsing classes, joining community channels, and trying challenges
The onboarding takes just a few minutes and makes a big difference in how relevant their recommendations are. If your child's interests change over time, they can always update their preferences.
Editing a Child's Profile
Need to update information? Here's how:
Go to your family settings
Select the child whose profile you want to edit
Update their name, birthdate, or email as needed
Save your changes
If you need to make more significant changes (like removing a child from your account entirely), contact us at [email protected].
Managing Multiple Children
Recess makes it easy to manage a family with multiple kids. You can add as many children as you need, and each one gets:
Their own profile with personalized preferences
Individual class recommendations based on their interests
Separate enrolled classes — Each child has their own schedule
Their own challenge progress — Challenges they've completed are tracked independently
Their own coin balance — Coins earned are tied to each child
This means siblings can have completely different Recess experiences tailored to their individual interests.
Switching Between Family Members
Your Recess account supports multiple family members, and switching between them is easy:
Use the family switcher in the app to move between profiles
Optional PIN security — You can set up PIN protection if you want to prevent younger kids from switching to a parent account or sibling's profile
Separate views — Each family member sees their own dashboard, enrollments, and community activity
This makes it simple for families sharing a device, while still keeping everyone's experience personalized.
Privacy
We take your family's privacy seriously:
Your child's information is protected according to our Privacy Policy
Age-appropriate matching — We use birthdate to ensure your child is matched with appropriate classes and content
No public profiles — Your child's personal information isn't visible to other members
For full details on how we handle data, please see our Privacy Policy.
