Recess membership gives your child access to a vibrant community of kids, live classes taught by passionate guides, and a library of creative challenges—all designed to help your child explore their interests, build skills, and make friends. Here's everything you need to know about how membership works.

Why Membership?

At Recess, we believe every kid deserves a place where they can be themselves, try new things, and connect with others who share their interests. Your membership supports this community and gives your child unlimited access to everything Recess has to offer.

When you become a member, your child joins a community of curious, creative kids from around the world. They can hop into live classes, take on challenges at their own pace, chat with friends, and attend daily community events—all in a safe, moderated environment.

What's Included with Membership

Your $99/month membership includes:

$100 in Monthly Class Credits

Each month, you receive $100 in credits to use toward any live classes. Credits are automatically applied when you enroll, and unused credits roll over month-to-month (up to $200). This gives you flexibility to take more classes some months and fewer others.

Full Community Access

Your child gets access to the entire Recess community, including:

  • Daily Community Hour — Every day, kids can join a live video hangout with other Recess members and guides. It's a relaxed time to connect, play games, work on challenges together, and just be part of the community. Community hour runs on a regular schedule so your child always knows when their friends will be online.

  • Chat & Community Channels — Kids can join community channels based on their interests—whether that's art, gaming, coding, books, or just general hangouts. They can chat with other members, share what they're working on, and find friends who like the same things they do. All channels are moderated to keep conversations safe and positive.

  • Challenges Library — Over 50 creative challenges across subjects like art, writing, coding, science, and more. Challenges are self-paced projects your child can complete on their own or with a team. They range from beginner-friendly to advanced, so there's always something new to try. When your child completes a challenge, they earn coins and can see who else in the community finished it too.

Live Classes with Expert Guides

Recess offers live, interactive classes taught by passionate guides who are experts in their fields. Classes cover everything from creative arts and music to coding, social skills, and academic subjects. Your child can browse upcoming classes, see who's teaching, and enroll in whatever interests them.

Your 10-Day Free Trial

When you sign up, you start with a 10-day free trial. During your trial, you get $100 in credits to try classes and explore everything Recess has to offer. This is a great time to:

  • Let your child browse classes and find subjects they're excited about

  • Try out community hour and see how your child connects with other kids

  • Explore the challenges library and start a project

  • Get a feel for how Recess fits into your family's routine

After your trial ends, your membership begins at $99/month and you'll receive $100 in fresh credits. If Recess isn't the right fit, you can cancel anytime before the trial ends and you won't be charged.

How Class Credits Work

Credits make paying for classes simple and flexible. Here's how they work:

Credits Are Always Used First

When you enroll in a class, we automatically apply your available credits to cover the cost. You don't have to do anything—it just happens.

  • If you have enough credits, the entire class is covered and there's no charge to your card.

  • If you have some credits but not enough, we use all your remaining credits and charge only the difference to your payment method.

  • If you have no credits, the full class price is charged to your payment method.

An Example

Let's say you want to enroll in a $35 coding class:

  • If you have $100 in credits → We deduct $35 from your credits, leaving you with $65. No card charge.

  • If you have $20 in credits → We use your $20, then charge $15 to your card. Your credit balance goes to $0.

  • If you have $0 in credits → We charge $35 to your card.

This way, you're never surprised by charges—credits are always applied first, and you only pay out-of-pocket for anything beyond your credit balance.

Credits Roll Over

Unused credits don't disappear at the end of the month. They roll over automatically, up to a maximum balance of $200. So if you have a quiet month with fewer classes, those credits will be waiting for you next month.

What Classes Cost

Class prices vary depending on the type of class and who's teaching:

  • Social & SEL classes: $15–$25 — Classes focused on social skills, emotional learning, and connecting with others.

  • Skill-building classes: $25–$40 — Classes where kids learn and practice specific skills like drawing, writing, or music.

  • Technical & expert-led classes: $35–$60 — In-depth classes taught by industry experts in subjects like coding, game design, or specialized topics.

With $100 in monthly credits, most families can take 3–5 classes per month without any additional charges. If your child wants to take more, you have the flexibility to do that—any costs beyond your credits are simply charged to your payment method.

Checking Your Credits & Billing History

You can see your current credit balance and review your billing history anytime in the app:

  1. Open Recess and go to your Profile.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Select Billing to see your credit balance and transaction history.

Your transaction history shows each class you've enrolled in, how many credits were used, and any charges to your payment method. It's a helpful way to keep track of how your family is using Recess.
